Capillary Connector. A pipework coupling that fits tightly on a pipe, there is a gap that is filled with solder when heated. This guarantees a watertight seal. Some couplings have a solder ring (or Yorkshire fitting) while some need solder to be applied once the joint is heated. These joints cannot be reused. A Paddington Plumber can solder pipework.Ceramic Taps. Taps with an internal rotating ceramic disc that controls the flow of water, only needing a quarter handle rotation to turn the flow on or off.Check Valve. A fitting specifically to allow water flow in one direction only. Paddington Plumbers can fit all appliances.Cistern. A large container for the storage of flushing water at atmospheric pressure. It is normally fitted with a float operated valve and overflow pipe.Close Coupled WC. A combination where the underside of the cistern sits directly on the back of the WC pan making a compact unit with low height. Normally the cistern is operated by a lever located on the front of the cistern or (recently) a push button on the top of the cisterns lid.Cold Water Storage Tank. A large static container that stores water at atmospheric pressure normally used for supplying domestic cold water and/or to a vented domestic hotwater system.Combination Boiler. “combi”. A boiler which has both a central heating water heat exchanger and a domestic water heater in one, self-contained unit. Unlike a vented heating and hot water system, a combi cant store hot water, but it heats water when it is needed either straight from the cold mains (for the domestic hot water) or in a ‘sealed’ central heating loop under pressure.Electrical Heating Element. A component used in an instant electric shower to heat the water as it passes over it.”
